April 7, 1991 Mississippi Committee for the Humanities 3825 Ridgewood Blvd. Room 111 Jackson, Mississippi 39211 Dear Sirs or Madams: I am a first time writer, working on a local history of Hancock County Mississippi; there has never been a complete history of this county published before (by complete, I mean all time periods and all parts of the county). The project is considerable, and I expect it to result in a book of perhaps 500 pages. I am seeking sources of funding for this work. Does the Mississippi Committe for the Humanities provide grants for such work? If so, I would appreciate receiving your application package, if there is one, with guidelines and submission deadline. The following information may be of help in deciding whether my work fits in with your mission: 1) The requestor (me!) is an individual with no organizational affiliation. 2) Project for which funding is requested:. History book. Quasi scholarly in style with full references, but using few primary sources (basically, assembling and editing information from many previously published sources). 3) Type of History: local/regional. 4) Area covered: Hancock County, Mississippi. 5) Funding desired: for writing and/or publishing, and some equipment such as specialized computer software for indexing, bibliograpy, scanner and software for i11 ustrat i ons . Many thanks for your consideration. s incerely, Robert G. Scharff
