PStar Adv., Jan. 18,1874 DEMES, Capt. • One day last week while Captain Demes of the Escambia, was towing timber out to the shipping when he saw a black whale between Round and Horn Islands. He says it was about thirty-five feet long and looked as large as a ten ton schooner. When he first discovered the whale porpoises playing around it, and it seemed to be having lots of fun spouting water and swimming around the "small fry." The Captain says he would have attempted to harpoon his whaleship had it been that a stiff wind was blowing at the time, and he did not like to cast loose his tow for fear of having the logs broken apart. DStar, Apr. 18, 1877. DENNY, Sam D. • 1900 - Among all the incidents of the last blow were some little ludicrous matters that occurred: for instance, the tug Mary, commanded by Capt.
