Addendum to Joseph Bourdages Family History Of Aulon, Haute-Garonne, France May 19, 2016 On May 1, 2012, we finished compiling our Bourdages Family History. Since then, we were fortunate to contact a very nice lady living in Aurignac, France, which is a short distance from Aulon, named Sabine Soubrier. She can communicate very well in English and also does genealogy for a hobby. She also has on her computer all the civil records for Aulon and the surrounding towns. These villages (towns) are grouped into the "Canton Aurignac" and for local and associate researchers, she has a digital copy of all the vital records for this Canton. To have access to these records is very rare and it is possible only because she is a member of very good genealogy group. In the early 1700's, most birth, death, marriage, divorce, etc. records for the Canton were filed and stored in the City Hall of Aurignac and maintained by the Mayor's office. Today these records are stored in the Department Archives of Haute-Garonne in Toulouse, France. Sabine has supplied us with copies of many original records on this family. She has corrected some errors in our earlier research and contributed many new names, dates, etc. on the Bourdages and related families. We will forever be grateful to her for her help. Some of the additions and errors she brought to our attention are: 1. On various pages in our History, we cited the local Catholic Church as the source for our records. They actually came from the archives in the city of Aurignac, now stored in the Department Archives in Toulouse. 2. We had our Joseph Bourdages as born on June 30,1830. This date was actually the date the birth certificate was filed - 2 days after his birth. Thus, our Joseph Bourdages was actually bom on June 28, 1830. The record also states his full name was Jean Pierre Joseph Bourdages. Many dates came from Mr. Maurice Bourdages, a resident of Aurignac, France that he mailed to us in 1987. While most of his information was correct, he had a few miss-translations and omitted some details that we are now correcting. His elderly wife, Odette Bourdages, is still living only a few houses from Sabine! 3. On page 22 of our paper, we listed "Jeanne Bourdages as born on September 1,1832." That date was taken from Maurice Bourdages' 1987 letter - it should have been August 31,1832 as taken from the actual birth certificate. She died "after" November 9,1898 as reported in "Clem's Paper" that was discussed in our Bourdages History. She should have been listed as Jeanne Gabrielle Bourdages. From her birth certificate, we now know her full name was "Jeanne Gabrielle Bourdages," born on March 6, 1835, and died on January 3,1899, in Aulon. Her death certificate also says she was not married. She was the last surviving child in this family. 4. On page 23 of our paper, we listed "Gabrielle Bourdages as born on March 7,1835" based on what was found in Maurice Bourdages' letter. Through the research of Mrs. Soubrier, we now know this child's full name was "Jeanne Francoise Bourdages," born on August 31,1832 (from her birth certificate) and died in Aulon on October 20,1834. Initially, we had the above two children crossed.
