Christ Episcopal Church. marks 100 years
Christ Episcopal Church will kick off their centennial celebration with a homecoming weekend June 8-9.
The weekend will begin with a reception 7 p.m. Friday evening, June 8. Wine, cheese and music under the stars will be
offered on the beautiful grounds surrounding Christ Church and overlooking the Gulf of Mexico.
On Saturday, June 9, during the day, there will be free time to visit with friends and enjoy old haunts along the Mississippi Gulf Coast. In historic down-
town Bay St. Louis, a variety of antique and art shops abound.
In the evening there will be a gala dance in Virginia Hall at 8 p.m. Well-known and popular local musician, Davis and Sax, will furnish music for dancing and listening enjoyment. There will be a cash bar.
Sunday’s highlights will include the Eucharist at 10 a.m. with The Right Reverend John M. Allin, D.D. presiding. Bishop Allin dedicated and blessed Christ Church and Virginia Hall in 1971 after both were rebuilt following total destruction caused by Hurricane
Camille, August 17, 1969.
Bishop Allin has consented to join in the celebration and will be not only the preacher. He has agreed to provide the people with humorous comments and anecdotes during the luncheon to be given in his honor following the 10 a.m. Eucharist.
Additional events are planned in subsequent months including a fish fry, observance of Camille night, octogenarian and nonogenarian celebration, a bicycle ride and annual Harvest Dinner.
