.A SEAPORT IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI
From a communication which appeared in the "Mississippian" of Jackson recently, we perceive a project is on foot to establish a seaport within the limits of the State of Mississippi.

The depth of v/ater in the harbor we have not ascertained, nor its capabilities for becoming a great commercial port; but there are other advantages which must make it to some extent a place of resort during the sickly and summer months.
Resort Location Considered
As a convenient and desirable retreat from the dust and heat of July and August, it offers to the citizens of New Orleans inducements and facilities as great as any other point on the Gulf. The location is upon a peninsula of high and dry land, above the reach of inundation, (affording good drinking water), overlooking Lake Borgne on the south-east side, and Pearl River on the northwest, having the benefit of a sea breeze sweeping across the isthmus of land.
The waters in the Lake Shore abound with a great variety of sea and shell fish, while Pearl River furnishes a plenty of fresh water fish of the best quality.
The adjacent pine country is full of game such as deer, bear, wild turkies, etc.', etc., so that the pursuits of the chase may be added to other recreations and diversions of this watering place.
Convenience
Another recommendation is its proximity to New Orleans. The distance can be traversed ir\ t hr e e - an d - a haIf;-hoursr:by~stearoi The man of business might visit the city early morning in time to attend to his affairs, and return at night to enjoy the healthiness and luxury of pure air and cool sea brddzes.
VJith these manifold advantages and attractions, it cannot fail in drawing public attention, and doubtless many of our citizens ttpv be induced to establish their summer residences in the vicinity.
