Helping to fill the shelves ^ f ff
When Coast	Electric
employees learned that the Hancock County Food Pantry was in desperate need of canned goods and other food items, they decided to help the agency fill its shelves.
Throughout the month of June, employees sold raffle tickets for two Fourth of July Firecracker Gift Baskets. Tickets were sold to employees, their friends, relatives and to anyone interested in helping. The effort raised a total of $374 during the five-week fund-raising schedule.
Willie Thomas, committee chairman of Coast Electric’s Employee Community Committee in Hancock County, recently presented Aileen
Saucer, president of the •Hancock County Food Pantry with the funds.
“We were pleased that we were able to raise as much as we did in such a short time,” Thomas said.
According to Sauzer, during
1998,	the Hancock County Food Pantry assisted 1,902 families representing 5,927 individuals, over eight percent
more than were helped in 1997.
Thomas said, “Most people don’t realize that a $6 contribution to the pantry provides groceries for one person for five days . . . quite a lot for such a small donation.”
The Food Pantry is a United Way agency. It accepts donations and requests for assistance by contacting 228-467-2790.
