As luck had it, however, in 1972, Jerry ?Fish? Fisher (then lead singer for the superstar rock group Blood Sweat and Tears) met Melva Luke, a Delta stewardess on holiday in-Europe. In the spirit of Southern hospitality, she invited the young musician to sample some of her homemade seafood gumbo the next time he was in New Orleans. Melva must have looked like a woman who could really cook because Jerry recalls that he ?thought about that gumbo a lot.? Four months later, after a BS&T concert at the University of New Orleans Lakefront campus, he called Melva to place his order.
