Most of this time was spent in the service of France. While on the sea, Guillaume kept a dairy about his travels around the world. Fortunately for his own descendants, of which the Biloxi Meauts are a part, some of his diary concerned his family, brothers and sisters and his children. Francois Meaut, son of Guillaume, came to America in the early 1830?s. He remained in New Orleans for a short time, then moved to Biloxi, where he met and married Anastasia Ryan, daughter of Jacques Ryan and Elizabeth Laforce. Elizabeth was descended from the Ryans of Savannah, GA, and from the Choctow tribe of the Natchez area. They had eleven children, descendants of whom help populate the Gulf Coast.
