In January 1997 the U.S. Library of Congress relayed the following statement concerning copying of Archives Nationales (Paris, France) materials:
Scholars may have photocopies of archival materials in the Archives Nationales, with two exceptions, providing the copying does not include an entire series or subseries. Copying of complete collections, series, or subseries by an individual or institution requires the written permission of the Archives Nationales or other agency holding the originals...
(The two exceptions, Archives de la Marine and Archives Privees require specific written permission.)
