HISTORIC DANTZLER MEMORIAL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH AND OLD PARSONAGE, 4912 Weems Street. This church is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a year-long observance. The present building was built in 1914 as a memorial from the children of the L.N. Dantzler family in honor of their mother, Sarah Eran Dantzler, with details of its dedication inscribed on a cornerstone at the southwest corner. The Church is Classic Greek Revival style and the front is graced with four ionic columns representing the four apostles, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Unique to the church are the stained glass dome and two large stained glass windows. The church is one of the few in existence that has a coliseum seating arrangement where every pew is different and fits only in its appointed position. The original building had two auditoriums, one for church, the other for Sunday school. In 1958 the church membership had grown and a renovation was made to include the entire sanctuary to accommodate the attendance. The Old Parsonage no longer houses its pastor, but is still in use. It was built in 1872. Hostesses: Moss Point Garden Club 3. JACKSON COUNTY WELCOME CENTER, located on 1-10 eight miles east of exit 68. The center was built in 1983 and opened to the public in 1984. THE HOME OF DRS. RANDY AND TRACY ROTH, 1709 Beach Boulevard. Ironwood by the Sea was completed in 1899 after four years of construction. This Queen Anne style home is an excellent example of the turn-of-the-century architectural styles in Pascagoula. The center hallway with four side rooms was common. Every doorway in the house has a transom which was previously important for cross ventilation. A kitchen was added on during the 1970's and the attic was converted to a second floor during the same time. A renovation was performed from 1997-1999 with careful attention to the architectural details of the period. One of the five original fireplaces is still wood-burning with the others being converted to gas. The chandelier in the entryway was purchased from an old New Orleans home and is dated 1870's. The chandelier in the front parlor came from a Mississippi River steamship. The armoire in the front bedroom is dated from the 1860's. The dining room table which is from California is dated around 1890. The buffet was purchased locally and had been in the same family since 1870. Hostesses: Pascagoula Garden Club 2.
