April 12, 2004 Mr. Jim Woodrick Mississippi Department of Archives and History P.O. Box 571 Jackson, MS 39205-0571 Dear Mr. Woodrick: I am pleased to enclose supporting evidence for a historical marker for the site of the Pirate House of Waveland, in Hancock County. This historic structure was destroyed by hurricane Camille in 1969. The attachments, I believe, will speak for themselves for the most part. There are, however, two areas that I would like to be considered beyond their obvious meaning. These concern the interview with Mr. Nicaise. While he is only one person, his memory that there was a tunnel is substantially supported by the 1954 article in the Eagle. The other has to do with the raising of Shetland ponies by the Lister family. In itself, that information may not be important for a historical marker, but again, the Eagle article lends support to the accuracy of Mr. Nicaise’s memory. In addition, several other sources mention a wishing well remembered by Mr. Necaise. I look forward to hearing from you and your department. Please let me know if anything further is required at this time. I would appreciate your using my New Orleans address, which is 2948 Grand Route St. John, New Orleans, LA 70119. Sincerely, Russell B. Guerin Researcher, Hancock County Historical Society
