Volunteers asked to circulate petition

John McKenna, chairman of a citizens group that seeks a change in city government, on Monday night approved the wording of a petition requiring a 20 percent qualified voters signature to bring the issue to a popular vote.
McKenna said: “I am told there are around 4,200 qualified voters in Bay St.
Louis. We should get as many signatures on this petition as possible. We should try to reach all of our people. The petition should be made available through a printed form in the Sea Coast Echo, petitions should be circulated by volunteers who are public spirited and willing to do some door-to-door canvassing, and copy of the petition should be in the City Hall and other places

where people may conveniently go and sign. The voter should also assume some responsibility. The Government of our town is every voter’s business and every voter’s responsibility.”
McKenna asked that anyone interested in serving call him at his home phone 467-7106 or pick up petitions at the mayor’s office in the City Hall.
