IN 1908 OLD DOBBIN PROVIDED POWER FOR FIELD WORK ON THE FARM AND FOR TAKING THE FARM FAMILY TO TOWN.
The above^ is a picture of a build ing which housed the Manieri Restaurant, operated by the late Andrew (Bad) Manieri, and which was located on the BeaCh at the head of Washington Street, loca.-. tion now occupied by the American	Legion pavilion.	This was	a popular	rendezvous in the e'gtr-
ly 1900’s, and is still remembered by	many folks still	residing in	Bay St.	Louis. It was in tfe-
rear of this building that Dad’s son,	Russell Manieri,	who gained	national	fame as a tor4Mtfch
priz§ fighter, trained for many of his important bouts.
FARM YOUTH LEADERSHIP INCREASES.	I
An impressive phase bi Mississippi’s agricultural progress and prosperity is the continuing growth of the Future Farmers of Amer. ica organization in our state, First organized in 1934 as a nucleus of only 250 members, the FFA movement now has 9,960 enthusiastic participants among Mississippi farm youth. The FFA’s program, improved year by year, has been a powerful factor in de. velopment of leadership among our rural youth for present and future needs.
STEP FORWARD ON NATCHEZ TRACE
The largest single construction contract tver to be let on the Natctfez Trace Parkway was award, ed this month for the 14_mile project in Hinds and Claiborne counties.. This work will be the first major construction on the Natchez Trace south of Jackson since World War n. The only other section of the Trace south of Jackson on which work has been undertaken is the 12-mile strip near Natchez, now open to the public.. .This is a major step toward eventual completion of this historic route.
