his sister, Nancy Warden Lee. The census record shows he was “widowed” and he was also a Civil War veteran. In those days it would been very difficult for a widowed father to raise a young girl on his own, thus he possibly gave his daughter to relatives to raise which was a common practice in those days. This is only a theory and will need to be researched by others. What we do know is that Ophelia Warden married Calvin Jackson Saucier in Harrison County on October 25, 1883, and lived last in Saucier, Mississippi. She is buried in the Beulah Church cemetery with a headstone that reads “March 22, 1867 - October 5, 1923.” While most people referred to her as Ophelia, she claimed her full name was Martha Ophelia Warden. Calvin and Ophelia had a large family in Harrison County with many descendants and they can be found on the Ancestory.com web site. These children include: 1. Ada Elizabeth Saucier - born 1886 2. John Rudolph Saucier - born 1888 3. Randolph Soule Saucier - bom 1890 4 Thomas Aaron Saucier - bom 1892 5. Homer Jackson Saucier - born 1895 6. Henry Royal “Roy” Saucier - bom 1897 7. Callie C. Saucier-bom 1900 8. Bertha Jane Saucier - bom 1902 9. Delia Ophelia Saucier - bom 1904 10. Leona Lee Saucier - bom 1906 11. Ora Mae Saucier - bom 1909 We recently contacted several grandchildren of Ophelia Warden Saucier still living in the area of Harrison County where their grandmother lived. While none could remember who Ophelia’s parents were, they did tell us they could not remember their parents ever talking about Ophelia having any brothers or sisters. This seems to fit in with our theory that Ophelia was probably an only child. Then, to complicate matters, we found buried in the Beulah cemetery near Ophelia, William Franklin Warden who died in 1922. We found him in the 1910 census of Pearl River County as bom in 1859. Near William’s grave is that of Cora Jane Warden, bom 1881 and died 1959. She was a Davis and the wife of William. We also find buried nearby William and Cora, Arthur D. Warden. Family told us that he was the son of William F. and Cora Warden. They also said Arthur had several other siblings, but no one knew the connection of William F. Warden to Ophelia Warden Saucier. Could it be her brother? Probably not, because we know Ophelia’s mother, Obeda Cameron, was still living in her parents’ home as found in the 1860 census of Marion County, Mississippi. More research on William F. Warden will have to be conducted to identify him - perhaps a death certificate? J. Green Cameron - he is listed in the 1850 and 1860 censuses of Marion County living with his parents. He was 14 in the year 1860, or bom in 1846. 32
