It is reached every day by two steamers, -which make the run in a little over an hour starting at ^ o'clock from Mobile and landing you at the hotel wharf. Here all is quiet, cool, green and serene. The house is on a high bank. The air is pure and free of malaria and mosquitoes. The bay spreads wide before you, and sail and steamers give it signs of life and delightful marine views. The city stretches along in sight. The bathing is salt and refreshing. The fishing is excellent and so is the hunting. The House itself is arranged with a view to the repose and enjoyment of the guests, most of whom are business men from Mobile and their families. The former go over at 7 A.M. to their duties and return at *+ P.M., spending the hours of business in the city and their hours of retirement from it either on the boat or at the Hotel. The living of the latter is excellent. Mrs. Short is one of the very best housekeepers we know of, and their table is supplied with all the choicest articles to be procured anywhere, and all the delicacies of the season, and the food is prepared and cooked to suit the most fastidious palate. Around the house are delightful and shady walks and pleasant drives with good roads and pleasant places to visit and observe them ?y~- 00^86
