Mary Ellis owns 1,260 shares of common stock; Beth Hudson owns 1,140 shares of common stock, Martha Hood owns 200 shares of common stock. Starting salaries for each will be no greater than $3,200 per month. (All salaries in PaddleWheel are quite low initially. Salaries must increase by the end of the first year in order to retain personnel.)
For the last five years Mary Ellis has been engaged full-time in the preparations necessary to get the Company started and to develop a repertory theatre on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Prior to that time, Mary Ellis has worked professionally in strategic and long range planning, organizational management, resource development, budget planning and management and in all aspects of theatre operation. She taught theatre for many years at the university level and worked as artistic and technical director for numerous productions. She is a playwright for both adult and children's theatre. Her first play, The Cry of the Jay, was chosen as the official state drama for the Mississippi Centennial Celebration in 1961. She was for 12 years Production Chair on the Board of Governors of Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre, the oldest continuously operating community theatre in the United States. Dr. Ellis has an undergraduate degree in political science and journalism, a masters in theatre, and a doctorate in higher education administration.
For the last five years Beth Hudson has been engaged full-time in the preparations necessary to get the Company started and to develop a repertory theatre on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Prior to that time, Beth Hudson worked for twelve years as the accountant for and then the controller of a large insulating company. For five years she was membership secretary and bookkeeper for Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre. She has worked as business manager of a summer stock company and a dance company. She has extensive experience as a professional Stage Manager and as a Technical Director. She has taught theatre management and stage lighting. She has worked in lighting design for professional, college, dinner, and community theatre, specializing in lighting for dance. Miss Hudson has 27 years experience as a soloist, in symphony and quartets, pit orchestra for opera and musicals playing violin, viola, and oboe. She has a BS in business administration (economics and finance) and graduate hours toward both a masters in theatre and a master of social work.
For the last five years Martha Hood has been employed full-time as a specialist in the field of Petroleum/Utility Right of Way Contract Negotiations and Permitting. She is currently , employed in that capacity by National Landmasters, Inc., and prior to 1998 she was self-employed in the same field performing services for Art LeBlanc, Inc., Alpha Land Services, and Burt Zaunbrecher, Inc. From 1993 to 1996 Martha Hood was employed by Georgia Power in the same capacity. Prior to 1993, Martha Hood taught high school drama, wrote and directed children's theatre, and was a private piano teacher. She has long experience in community theatre, particularly in musical comedy. She has performed as a piano soloist with a symphony
