ADOLPHE AIME KERGOSIEN
January 6, 1833 - September 26, 1912
Adolph Kergosien was bom in Lorien, department of Morbian, Brittany, France in and arrived in America at age 17 in the mid 1850?s. He was the first Kergosien in America and today all Kergosiens in America are his direct descendants.
Adolph was raised by foster parents in Brittany and was well educated for the period. His initial venture in America was to establish a lumber mill at the junction of Rotten Bayou n\and Bayou LeTerre in Fenton. The mill venture was successful, creating a multi-acre sawdust pile which was finally sold in the 1980?s as fuel for an electric generating plant.
Soon after the mill began production, he obtained a ship?s captains license and bought a boat with which to haul his lumber to New Orleans. He also established a general mercantile store in order to have a return for his boat and to supply needed items to mill workers and other residents of Fenton.
He married Elodie Mauffray ON August 15, 1859, to whom 11 children were bom, of whom, 5 lived to adulthood. There were 4 boys, Adolphe Atanase, Alphonse Aime, George Armand, Henry Marie, and 7 girls, Justine Agnes, Elenore Ange, Ange Delphine, Hortence, Elenore, Alphonsine Frances, Marie Victorine. George and Alphones. One daughter married George Curet, one married William Curet, one daughter m. C. L. Baker, Dau. m. R. L. Martin and one married F. M. Attaway . Alphonse m. Lavina Cuevas and George m. ?
Adolph died at the family home in Fenton on Thursday morning, September 26, 1912 in St. Mary?s Cemetery in Fenton. Age 82 years.
