publication, La France Protestante, states that the Horrys were of the noble family of the name of the ancient province of Angoumois, France, who professed the doctrines of the Reformed Church as early as 1594. Angoumois is of the department of Charente and bounds on the eastern side of the maritime department of Charente-Inferieure, which includes in its territory the Isle of Re.
He married Elizabeth Mary Gamier in French Santee, South Carolina, August 23, 1692. A marriage is recorded in the Court of Ordinary of the Province of South Carolina, 1672-92, page 490: "Wee Daniell Hory, Gen. Isaace Massique & Peter la Sail, Merchants [bondsmen] ...two thousands pounds sterel [bond]...three and twentieth day of August 1692. Whereas...ye
Governor...Lycenced...Attkin Williamson Clerk to Joyne...in holy Estate of Matrimony...Daniell Hory & Elizabeth Gamaier spinster...." This is an unusually large bond and would indicate that Elizabeth Gamier was a person of property.
Daniel died 1696 in St. George Parish, Charleston, South Carolina. He petitioned the court to become a citizen in South Carolina, about 1696. "Daniel Horry and Elizabeth his wife" received their citizenship by Act of Parliament. Bill ordered read in Commons, December 9, 1696; read Dec. 14, 1696; passed January 5, 1696-7; Read & passed House of Lords Jan. 9, 1696-7. (From the Huguenot Society of London Publications, Demizations & Naturalizations of Aliens 1603-1700. p. 243). Daniel and his wife had placed their names on this list sometime between 1692 and 1695. It would be closer to 1692 as no children are named. However, Daniel evidently died without knowing that he had been granted citizenship, because his widow and three daughters then placed their names on a list for naturalization.
