A. C. MITCHELL
Born April 22, 1910 in Hancock Comity, A. C. Mitchell has been seared and educated in the public schools of the county, attending Logtown School, then completing his education at Bay High School.
He first appeared in public life when he was elected Clerk of Courts in 1947, and in the two elections of 1951 and 1955 was i&elected to this office. Having served three consecutive terms, Mitchell confided he felt he had an understanding of the office to which he had been elected and that he was most grateful to the people of Hancock County who bad placed him in this office. He also expressed 'himself as endeavoring at all times to solicit for the county the very best with-eat over-indulgence of taxation, and that the ten and a half years he has served as Clerk of Courts, weathering changes of administrations both local and from state levels, and with noteworthy accomplishments of Hancock County during 'his span of time in which he has served the people and the county, that they will again see fit to place him in effice in the 1959 elections, at which time he will again be a candidate for re-election.
Mitchell was married to the former Miss Marjorie Banderet of Bay S't. Louis on July 27, 1932. Their only child, Janelle, has grown into a charming and beautiful young lady who was graduated several years ago from St. Joseph’s Academy, and attended Mississippi Southern College.
Operating the largest staffed office in the Courthouse, Mitchell said he is proud of his office personnel who have aided him greatly and would like the people to know them, through this medium. His wife, Margie Mitchell is indispensable in the office as are, Sylvester Moran, Marie Quintini, Leila Carver, and Vera Lee Breland.
serves as attorney for the Board of Trustees of the Hancock County Hospital and Bay St. Louis City Schools. His law partner, Dan M. Russell, Jr., is Bay S't. Louis City Attorney. The firm also represents the Hancock Bank and the Peoples Federal Savings and Loan Association.
Favre received his elementary and high school	education in
Kiln. In 1938, upon completion of high school, Sam joined the Merchant	Marine.	Saving his
wages he furthered his education by returning to school and received a degree in business administration from Mississippi State College. During his college days he returned to sea during vacations, saving his money with the plan to enter law sohool at a later date. In 1943 he was elected to the office of Superintendent of Education of Hancock County, and took this office Jan. 1, 1944, serving for a four year term. He did not seek re-election, but used money he had earned to return to school, and received his L. L. B. in law from the University of Mississippi in 1950. Returning to Bay St. Louis to practice he soon became affiliated with Dan M. Russell, Jr., and the partnership was formed.
In telling of his home in Kiln, Favre said there is a wooden bench on the front porch over a hundred years old that was made by his great grandfather. The family still enjoy using it as they relax in the shade on late afternoons in the summer.
Schools of the county from 1933 to 1947. He will be a candidate for re-election in August 1959. With his excellent background, and with the good administration during his three terms of office it seems likely he will receive little opposition and be re-elected by a landslide vote.
Born January 10th, 1909, Breland was married to the former Miss Beatrice Dickerson on December 24th, 1931. The couple have four children, twin daughters, Marilyn Marie and Marion Nell, and two sons William (Billy) and Larry Breland.
SAM L. FAVRE, JR.
When appointing an Attorney in January 1956,- the Board of Supervisors selected Sam L. Favre, T", fourth generation to carry this name in Hancock County, and whose ancestors were among the first French families to settle on the Gulf Coast area establishing homes from Mobile into Hancock County.
Our present Board’s Attorney is unmarried and resides with his parents, Sam L. and Mary B. Favre at their Kiln home. He is a partner in the law firm of Russell and Favre, Bay St. Louis. He also
EDRIN E. BRELAND
Edrin E. Breland, a native of Hancock County was first elected County Superintendent of Education in 1947. He was re-elected without opposition in 1951 and in the 1955 elections had only one opponent whom he easily defeated to serve for the third consecutive term in this important County position.
At the present time the County School Program under the new re-organization program is almost complete, and this fall at mid term the fine consolidated school near Kiln will be completed to enroll all students from Dedeaux, Kiln, Sellers, and Leetown. Breland received his elementary education in the public schools of the county, attending Savannah High School and Pearl River Junior College. He also attended Louisiana State University, and Mississippi Southern College, Hattiesburg.

CLAIBORNE J. LADNER
Claiborne J. Ladner first entered the political arena in 1947, seeking election to public office. He was elected that year to the office of County Tax Assessor, by an impressive majority, and by serving the people wisely and well, has become one of the most popular elected officials in the county. In 1951 he was re.elect-ed by a token vote (no opposi. tion) and in 1955 received a five to one majority
A native of Bayou LaCroix community, son of Alcide T. Ladner, and the late Mrs. Margaret Johnson Ladner, he is married to the former Beatrice Wil. liams, and is the father of two sons, Wayne J., 14, and Luther
D., 11 years of age. He has been a resident of Bay S't. Louis for twenty.six years.
Ladner first became known in public life when he was employed in 1930 by the late A. G. Favre, Hancock County Clerk of Courts. He later became affiliated with the office of County Tax Assessor as Deputy, under the administration of George L. Cue. vas During the dark days of the depression in the mid.thirties, Ladner left public office to become associated with a road construction company, and during that time drove trucks for this outfit. In 1938 he was employed as Clerk for the Works Project Ad. ministration, and in 1940 ele.
vated in that branch of government service to Chief Time Keeper for the Administration in Hancock County.
From 1942 through November 1945 he served with the United States Army in the European Theater of Operations, and saw duty in England, France, Bel. gium, Holland and Germany. He earned the rank of Technical Sergeant. From December 1945 to June 1947 he served as Duty Officer at the Henderson Point Merchant Marine Cadet Training School.
Ladner, who received his edu_ cation in the public schools of Hancock County, is a Catholic, a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion; Veterans of Foreign Wars, the 40 Homines et 8 Chevaux Voiture, and the Hancock County Sportsmen Club.
This public official, still a young man, feels his calling is to continue to serve the public of Hancock County, and in the elec. tions of 1959 will probably be one of the leading candidates when ballots are counted.

In addition to his post as Justice of the Peace, Ladner owns and operates a successful Taxi business.
His reputation as a fair minded referee in the sports world has been upheld during his term of office in administering justice, and he plans to run for re-election in the 1959 election.
NOLAN LADNER
Nolan Ladner, Justice of the Peace, Beat Five, Hancock County, was elected to office in 1955 by an overwhelming m a jo r i t y of votes, and has been serving his first term of office as an elected official with the aplomb of a veteran. .
A native of Bay St. Louis, Justice Ladner is descended from one of the early families of the commuity. His' parents were Judge and Mrs. Alcide Ladner. He is married to the former Miss Ethel Strahan of Pearlington, and they are the parents of three children. A married daughter, Noleen Ladner Breland, and two sons, Mickey, a graduate of St. Stanislaus, now serving in the United States Navy, and Nolan, Jr., who attends St. Stanislaus.
Always interested in athletics, Justice Ladner was formerly one of the most popular and sought after professional basketball and
NELIUS RHODES
Nelius Rhodes, Justice of the Peace, Beat 5, is serving his second term as an elected public official of the county.
In addition to his duty as Ju&. tice of the Peace, Rhodes was appointed by Chancery Judge Dan M. (Russell, Sr, and William G. Hewes, to serve as Juvenile Judge of Hancock County.
Son of the late Joseph Rhodes and Sarah Balius Rhodes,, he is a native of Biloxi, and a resident of Bay St. Louis for the past 27 years. He is married to the former Mathilda Maurigi, and the couple are the parents of three children, two sons, Nelius, Jr., and Joseph (Doc) and one daughter, Gay Rhodes.
In addition to his duties in public life, and with the assistance of his wife, the couple are agents for the Greyhound Bus Line in Bay St. Louis.
Prior to being elected to of. fice, Rhodes was employed by the Southern Bell Telephone Com. pany, and during World War n served with the Tank Corps in the United States Army.
He is a member of the Roman Catholic Faith, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Dis. abled American Veterans, an ac. tive Board member of the Hancock County Blood Bank, and the Tennessee and Mississippi Sheriff’s and Peace Officers Association.
