CHAPTER 2; THE EARLY YEARS
The next few years saw great improvements and ?ranges in the growth and structure of the church.
On January 18, 1959, a congregational meeting -as held immediately following Sunday morning -:rship for the consideration and approval of a church budget for 1959. Prepared by the Board of beacons and approved by the Session, it was accepted by the congregation and totaled $4,000.
This same month, it was determined that, since several of the Women of the Church were unable to attend an afternoon meeting of the organization, .could attend one in the morning, two circles -ould be formed, one meeting in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Over the years, the snmbers would change, at times there being three circles, sometimes two, only one at others.
The church was also presented with new bymnals, and the old ones were "loaned" to the Poplarville Presbyterian Church, with the exception 3f nine of the "blue" ones which would be retained far the choir's use.
A new and larger pulpit now enhanced the church sanctuary, too. This beautiful pulpit was ?ade and presented to the church by Mr. Chris Reab. ?tr. S.K. Kepner assisted him in the making of this fine piece of furniture. The old, smaller pulpit, also made and donated by Mr. Reab, was now used in the Sunday school. The larger pulpit has since been donated to a church in Mexico; the smaller one Is still retained by the church in Mississippi.
Considerable thought had been given to purchasing a plot of land on which to build a house to serve as a manse; however, the church was not
