ARTICLE X (Cont.)
From the beginning, the records have been kept by Mrs. Virginia Baxter Larroux.
Both the repository which holds the Book of Remembrance, and the wall case which houses the original Communion Service were made by the late Wallace Chevis.
Recently, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Finley made a most generous gift of chimes for the church which are enjoyed not only on Sundays but through the week by the entire neighborhood.
Along with other services to the church by the women, the provision of flowers for the weekly worship services were carried out by Mrs.
J. A. Evans who ofted used flowers from her own yard.
Her daughter, Mrs. Alice Pitcairn, succeeded her and is in charge of this ministry when flowers are often given in memory of loved ones or to honor someone.
Any review of this church in the mid-20th Century would be incomplete without a tribute to Mrs. J. B. Goldman and Mrs. Carl T.
Smith who for several decades were largely responsible for the music of the church, and to Mrs. C. M. Shipp, the beloved teacher in the primary department.
In 1980, with Rev. Willis Britt as minister, another ministry was added. Growing out of a community need and the concerns of a group within the church, the Social Concerns Committee explored the possibility of a day care center.
After a survey and contacting the health department and licensing agency, a list of requirements were presented to the administration board.
They decided to proceed	and the	children's center opened	on	September 1 with	12 children,	three employees	and a cook.
The center	grew rapidly	and the	present	enrollment is	126	children
from three	months to 12	years.
There are two kindergarten classes, a summer camp program and an after school program for elementary school children.
The center now employs a Director, an Assistant Director, a Certified Kindergarten Teacher, a Certified Pre-School Teacher and a Cook and ten day care workers.
They feel a real community need is being met in this weekday ministry. Wendy Rupp is Director.
The membership of both Sunday school and church fluctuated over the years as three wars, varying economic conditions and a devastating hurricane affected the area.
