Elijah Ladner born Apr. 15, 1825. Served with the Confederate States Army. He died Apr. 15, 1915 and buried at the Elijah Ladner Cemetery, Oak Grove MS., Lamar Co.. Photo courtsey: Mrs. Bessie (Ladner) Mapp 67 Elijah Ladner (Carlos Ladner) born Apr. 15, 1825 in Hancock Co., MS.. Married Martha Bounds, Feb. 6, 1848. Her date of birth Mar. 15, 1827. They made their home in Harrison Co., MS., where they raised cattle and sheep. Elijah built a fine home near what is known as the Ladner Cemetery. When the Civil War started, Elijah enlisted with Henley's Co. Army of MS., there in Biloxi. Near the end of the War, Martha died and was buried at the above mentioned Cemetery. On May 20, 1866, Elijah married Leonora Kelly. About 1877, Elijah sold out in Harrison Go., and moved his family to Oak Grove, in Marion Co., MS., II District which was later made a part of the New formed Lamar County. Elijah was well liked by many and most people who know him called him Uncle Elijah. He was also known as "King of sheep" as he owned approx. 5000 head. They built another home in Oak Grove, which was considered one of the best and most up to date homes in Oak Grove.
