WAVELAND UNITED METHODIST (Cont.)
Around 1950, new interest developed and once more a small group began to work for their own church. The Rev. Tom Prewitt, District Superintendent at that time, gave much assistance.
The Rev. Cude Rousseau who had retired from the Louisiana Conference of the Methodist Church and his wife (nee' Pearl Weston) had moved to Waveland and he served as the first minister.
The congregation met in the hallway of the Rousseau home in the beginning, but shortly afterward Mr. Holderith gave the property back to them and they began to function as a church.
Mrs. Ruth Meilleur is the only living Charter Member of this group.
They feel the road has been difficult but rewarding. They have always had a connection with other churches in the area - Pearlington, Clermont Harbor and now with Main Street United Methodist Church of Bay St. Loui s.
The church now has a membership of about 100 with an average attendance of 60 .
A number of families from the Logtown Church which was dissolved in 1963 with the coming of NASA added numbers and assets, and as Waveland grew, other new families were added.
The first structure was a small building 12 feet by 20 feet which serves now as the educational area since other additions have been made .
In the early 1960's a sanctuary was built which included office and kitchen facilities.
The sanctuary was remodeled in recent years and in 1983 a steeple was added.
Chancel furniture was given by Mrs. Selma George in memory of her husband, Maurice.
The kitchen area was completely renovated within the past year.
Waveland Church now enjoys a beautiful and adequate structure in which to serve God.
CLERMONT HARBOR UMC
Clermont Harbor is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year. Early in 1944 a survey discovered 35 Protestant families in the community with no Protestant church.
