A roar of approval sent shock waves throughout the courtroom. Rosa and I grabbed each other and the children and gave them a big hug. The reporters ran from the courthouse as fast as they could. Then we turned and thanked all of the attorneys who had served us so well.
We had to be escorted from the courtroom to escape the crowd. Reporters still hounded us for weeks and we were offered a small fortune to tell our story. There was even talk of a movie.
We declined in the interest of the children. We felt they could have a more normal life if we could put this all behind us. It occurred to me later that something might happen to me so I decided to put my story in writing and put it in a safe place for the time when the children would be grown.
