Meanwhile, the City of Shieldsborough, despite an apparent lack of enthusiasm on the part of the Board for their offers, had spent almost two years building a new City Hall.
Samuel	White now was	president of	the Board,	and	members
were Asa	Hursey, Thomas	Basam, H.	T. Stewart	and	Pierre
Baptiste. B. Sones was clerk, and D. C. Stanley sheriff. On February 20, 1969, the Board received a communication from the Mayor and Board of Aldermen notifying them the new City Ball building was "now ready for occupancy."
The Mayor and Aldermen	declared "it	has always	been	the intention of	the citizens of	Shieldsborough to fulfil	the promises
that have on several occasions been Bade to the citizens of Hancock County, viz., That the Corporation of Shieldsborough, or the people thereof, would at an early day furnish a place wherein the Courts could be held, together with suitable rooms for the various offices connected therewith."
