highly he was esteemed for intelligence and virtue: '1638, 26, 2d month, Mr. Increase Nowell, Mr. Zachariah Sims, Mr. John Green, Mr. John Harvard, Left. Ralph Sprague, and William Learned were desired to consider of some things tending towards a body of Lawes.' Record, p. 20."
289	Judith (Goodith) Gillman: Judith was bom circa 1585 in England. She married William Learned in England, April 22, 1606. There is great confusion on this woman's given name. "Goodith" may mean "good wife." Or Goodith may be not a corrupt spelling of Judith but an old English name, from the Saxon, Goditha, common at that time. Even more perplexing is that after William's death, his widow is referred to variously as Jane and Sarah. Another reference suggests that Jane may have been a second wife. Also, Goodith may have been spelled Goodeth.
290	Isaac Sternes: He resided in Watertown, Massachusetts. Although they landed in Salem, they soon moved to what is now called Watertown, because the "plantation at Salem was too thickly settled."
Isaac was bom about 1590 in Higham, Suffolk, England. He married Mary Barker in Stoke Nayland, Suffolk, England, May 20, 1622. He emigrated, June 12, 1630. Point of origin: England. Isaac and his wife Mary sailed on the ship Arbella, the flagship of the Winthrop fleet, from the Isle of Wight. John Winthrop wrote that they left on March 29, 1630. In Bank's book on the Winthrop fleet, he lists the children of Isaac and Mary as John, Abigail, Elizabeth, Hannah and Mary.
Occupation: Tailor. Isaac was May 18, 1631 in Watertown, Massachusetts. He made a will in Watertown, Massachusetts, April 28, 1671. His will, dividing his estate among his children, can be found in the records of Watertown. It shows him to have been a man of considerable means for those days. It included fourteen parcels of land, totally 467 acres, plus stock, farming utensils, provisions, and household goods.
Isaac died June 19, 1671 in Sudbury, Massachusetts. The surname is also spelled "Steams" in some records.
291	Mary Barker: Mary was bom about 1600 in Nayland, Suffolk, England. She married Isaac Stemes in Stoke Nayland, Suffolk, England, May 20, 1622. She was baptized in Stoke Nayland, Suffolk, England, January 6, 1626. Mary died April 2, 1677. The Threlfall book has her death date as April 23.
292	Randall Baguley:
Randall was bom in Ollerton Hall, Knutsford, Cheshire, England. He married Jane ? Baguley in Ollerton Hall, Knutsford, Cheshire, England. He resided in Wrentham, Suffolk, England about 1603. Randall died 1626 in Wrentham, Suffolk, England. Randall of Ollerton divided his estate between the two sons, Phillip and Robert. Each of these two sons in turn had two sons, so that Ollerton's lands became further diminished by division. Philip's sons were Randall and Philip. Robert's sons were Randall and John. Phillip's Randall moved across England to Suffolk, and was resident at Wrentham. He apparently made this move as a married man with two or more children, and in the years following 1603 had five children baptised at Wrentham (youngest being John, later of Watertown, MA) before his death in 1626.
293 Jane ? Baguley: She married Randall Baguley in Ollerton Hall, Knutsford, Cheshire, England.
294 John Warren: John was born 1585 in Nayland, Suffolk, England. He resided in Watertown, Massachusetts by 1630. John died December 13, 1667 in Watertown, Massachusetts.
295	Margaret ? Warren:
296	Walter Haynes: Walter was bom 1583 in Sutton Mandeville, Wiltshire, England. Occupation: linen weaver. He married Elizabeth ? Haynes in England. He emigrated, April 24, 1638. Point of origin: from Sutton Mandeville, Wiltshid. The ship was the the Confidence of London. It sailed from Southampton, John Jobson, Master.
Walter was 1641 in Sudbury, Massachusetts. He made a will in Sudbury, Massachusetts, 1663 or 1664. In his will, he gave to his daughter his house in Shafton, now Shaftsbury, about nine miles south of Sutton Mandeville, in Dorset. He served a number of terms as deputy to the General Court (the legislature of the province) during the 1640s.
297	Elizabeth ? Haynes:
She married Walter Haynes in England.
298	Peter Noyes: Peter was bom in Andover, Hampshire, England. He was baptized in Andover, Hampshire, England, August 30, 1590. He married Elizabeth ? Noyes in England, about 1621. He emigrated, April 24, 1638. Point of origin: from Southampton, England. He sailed on the Confidence of London, John Jobson, master. He returned to England shortly thereafter, coming back to New England the next year on the Jonathan from Southampton with his children Peter, Dorothy and Abigail.
