MY LIFE IS ALWAYS ON THE LINE
The paintings of Alice Moseley have received acclaim from art critics, art educators, and art collectors. Her work has appeared in art shows and museum exhibits throughout the South. Both her life and work have been featured in various books, magazines, and newspapers, as well as on television.
Jules and Florence Laffel, editors of "Folk Art Finder", describe Mrs. Moseley's work as idyllic folk art. Folk Art denotes a "not formally trained artist" whose paintings reflect natural talent rather than class trained technique. Idyllic Art describes memory art of the "child within". It shows what the artist prefers to remember and not necessarily what really was. Idyllic artists are nostalgic optimists whose colors are brighter than bright and whose family picnics are remembered the way family picnics are supposed to be. (Betty doesn't get mad because Aunt Tillie said their potato salad had too much mustard.)
Artists of Alice's age and generation will not be with us forever and with them will go a vision of our roots and a memory of a way of life that is no more. To make her memory and her creativity available to everyone, inexpensively, Alice has had some of her best work reproduced in print form. "I want my work to be available to anyone who finds pleasure in it," she says. To many of us who struggle to stay sane in a sometimes crazy world, Mrs. Moseley's work gives us peace and continuity and helps us keep in touch with the solid values of the folks that preceded us.
