As for histories of Hancock County, the only one we have of any length is the WPA county history that was done in the 1930's and which, as is the case with most WPA county histories, could be improved upon considerably. We also have a copy of an address delivered in Bay St. Louis in 1886 by J. F. H. Claiborne, entitled "An Historical Account of Hancock County and the Sea Board of Mississippi." And the preservationists in your area might be interested to know that in 1971 John M. King authored The Regional Plan for Open Spaces, Recreation, and Environmental Appearance—Hancock, Harrison, Jackson, and Pearl River Counties, Mississippi. I feel sure there are copies of this publication available locally, and everyone in your organization is probably already familiar with it, but I felt it should be mentioned nevertheless.
