Jean Pierre "Cadet" apparently married, or had a relationship, with Celestine "Chariot" Favre's sister, Angelique Favre, before he married Ceiestine "Chariot." This evidence by the birth of their child, Louise Victoire Lafontaine in 1820. See her baptism record scanned into the Memories section of this page.

His death Note
The original tomb in the Bayou Cadet Cemetery that Jean Pierre "Cadet" Lafontaine was buried in fell apart by 1950. Mrs. Bertha Ladner Necaise of Bay St. Louis, MS, a direct descendant of "Cadet", was born in 1935 and grew up near the old cemetery in Ansley, MS. She recently told me her father, Coburn Eugene Ladner, born in 1906, rebuilt the tomb in 1950. She said her father told her that that both Cadet and his wife.
Celeste Favre, were both buried in the same old tomb. Her father found a number of bones (most of the bones were missing, probably due to rodents after the original tomb crumbled) in the tomb and he placed the bones in a cement bag before he resealed the reconstructed tomb. Her father reattached the original stone head marker to the tomb as it was previously found. The dates on the old stone read "March 17, 1790 —
April 20, 1852." I have examined the stone that appears very old, written in French, and across the bottom says it was made in New Orleans. I feel certain this old stone was made some time shortly after Cadet's death in 1852.

.Jean "Cadet" LaFontaine's name Note
His full name appears to be "Cadet Jean Pierre Lafontaine" as found on the baptism record of his Granddaughter, Louise "Elisa" Victoire Lafontaine, baptized at SLC on June 9, 1820. Cadet (pronounced "Caddy") or John (English for the French Jean) is what he mostly went by.
Cadet is a French word for "Junior," thus we know his father was also a "Jean Pierre." Jean "Cadet" and his children often used the last name of “Caddy" on their records, and I remember the old timers from that area referring to these families as "Caddy's." Jean "Cadet" and his ancestors in America used the surname of "Frederique dit Lafontaine" for the first few generations, then dropped the Frederick / Frederique part. The "dit" is a French term that means "also known as." Some records only show the "Frederick" name, while others only show "LaFontaine." I know this is confusing, but that is the way is was.

Cadet's headstone on his tomb in Bayou Cadet Cemetery in Ansley, MS (which appears old and probably made not long after his death) says he was born on March 17, 1790. We have a St. Louis Cathedral baptisms showing:
1) “Juan Favre," born on April 5, 1795, and baptized on June 8, 1795, son of "Margarita Favre / Fabre" with no father listed (Spanish priest using the Spanish version of French names) SLC Bapt. Bk. 13, p. 209.	2) "Juan Favre," born August 14, 1796, and baptized
September 27, 1796, son of "Margarita Favre" with no father listed, SLC Bapt. Bk. 13, p. 320.
3) “Juan Bautista Cadet," son of Juan Pedro Cadet and Margarita Favre, interred on September 19, 1799, SLC. I will assume this child that died in 1799 is the one that was born in 1796 and the one born in 1795 had already died.
Other Church records clearly show this Marguerite Favre had a relationship and other children	by	Jean	Pierre	Frederique dit LaFontaine.	Did Jean
Pierre and Marguerite have an child before 1795 called "Jean"? It is very possible, but we have no record of that. Based on the old headstone with the birth date of 1790 that was probably made not long after Cadet died in 1852, we can assume the family at that time new his correct birth date. With this I will use the date of birth on the headstone and assume our Jean "Cadet" LaFontaine was born on March 17, 1790.
