Cuevas named HMC?s Moonlight on Bay honoree
Longtime community activist and Sea Coast Echo publisher emeritus Ellis C. Cuevas will be honored at the Hancock Medical Center Foundation?s Moonlight on the Bay Friday, September ,5, 2003.
j The eighth annual dinner 'dance will be hosted at the Bay St. Louis Casino Magic?s Cypress Cove Ballroom. Last year?s gala honored general surgeon Joseph Rillens Lee, and was attended by nearly 500 guests. A highlight of the event is a silent auction featuring donations by local artists, businesses and individuals. Entertainment by "Witness" is guaranteed to keep the dance floor crowded until midnight.
; A VIP reception for patrons will be hosted by .Casino Magic prior to the dinner. Additional event sponsors	include
BancorpSouth, Peoples Bank, Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Kleinpeter and Jeanie S. Moran.
? Cuevas, Foundation President, has been affiliated with the organization
since its formation. For the last few years, he has coordinated monthly community luncheons at Hancock Medical Center to acquaint residents with the hospital?s services.
He began his newspaper career in the production department of The Sea Coast Echo in 1957, rising through the ranks as advertising director and general manager. He was editor and publisher from 1977 until retirement in 2000.
A Waveland native, Cuevas was inducted into the Mississippi Press Association?s Hall of Fame in 1998 and was named Outstanding Citizen in 1991 by the Hancock County	Chamber of
Commerce. In 2001 he received the prestigious NASA Public Service Medal in recognition of three decades	of support	of the
John C.	Stennis	Space
Center. Bay St. Louis Rotary Club awarded the longtime member a Paul Harris	Fellow	and
Vocational Excellence award.
His extensive leadership and communiiy . involvement has been a guiding force for organizations including: The United Way of Hancock County, Goodwill Industries of South Mississippi, Hancock County Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Hancock County Chamber of Commerce, Main Street United Methodist Church, Emily	deMontluzin
Scholarship Committee, Hancock County Historical Society and Mississippi Marine Debris Trash Task Force to name a few.

Lillian (Jane) Taconi of Bay St. Louis, was a nursing employee of Hancock Medical Center until her retirement.
