Council again views beach front ordinance
By BRENT MACEY
The Bay St. Louis City Council ^ Tuesday again decided to wait before approving an ordinance concerning building on beach front property.
Councilman James Thriffiley, at a previous council meeting, had proposed an ordinance be passed which would not allow building on beach property outside the down town area.
At Tuesday?s meeting Thriffiley returned with a different ordinance. This ordinance would allow building in tlie downtown area and on some six lots adjoining the Bay bridge.
Currently those lots are classified as commercial property.
The push by Thriffiley to have the ^ ordinance passed- followed his recent ? ... discovery that the current ordinance on the books could be questioned legally.
That ordinance, adopted in 1972, contains a sciviner?s error. Two of the six lots listed as adjoining the bridge .are incorrectly numbered.
Council Attorney Gerald Gex that the legality of that ordinance could be
questioned.
Councilman Harry Farve asked the motion to accept the new ordinance be tabled so he could give the ordinance closer consideration.
Councilman Sheldon Seuzeneau asked more consideration be given to how the ordinance might effect future building on the yacht club property and the American Legion Pier.
In other business the council approved hiring the engineering firm of Owen and White of Baton Rouge to do a study of an anerobic filter wastewater system for the dty.
Cost for the study will be $6,500 and the study is expected to be completed
?	4_. by Oct. 31, for the council?s viewing.
.. The contract agrees, to have the company meet with the council until the council is satisfied.	j
However, the firm will not attempt to secure any funds for the city and will not meet with the Mississippi Bureau of. Pollution Control or the Gulf Coast I Regional Wastewater Authority without additional payments.
