FRANK J. LADNER. This gentleman is one of the best known and most highly esteemed citizens of Hancock County. Mr. Ladner has spent his lifetime amongst the people of this section. After some years spent in mercantile life at Gainesville, Miss., he embarked in commercial life at Bay St. Louis, where he was associated with Mr Daniel Carver, conducting one of the largest and most successful general stores. Mr. Ladner has always been foremost in all movements having for their end the advancement and development of this section. He served four years as Sheriff of Hancock County,

during his term he gave a wise and efficient administration of that important office He owns a large and comfortable country home on the beach at Waveland. Mr. Ladner is one of the large land holders of the County. Amongst his holdings he owns a very large tract of land on Jourdan River, three miles from the Bay. On this land is located some of the finest and most valuable pine timber in the County. He also owns some choice tracts of farming lands suitable for the growing of sugar cane, corn, potatoes, all kinds of vegetables, strawberries, figs, and other small fruits.
. WILLIAM RUHR, the General Merchant at Nicholson Avenue has resided in Hancock County ever since 1874. His store is well stocked with a fresh line of Fancy and Staple Groceries, and General Merchandise. For the accommodation of his trade at Nicholson Avenue, Waveland and Bay St. Louis he runs wagons making regular deliveries. Mr. Ruhr has followed farming for many years and has a small well kept farm. He has always taken an active part in public affairs, serving for fourteen years as Street Commissioner and Tax Collector of Waveland. Prior to his locating in Hancock County he resided in New York City where he was associated with his uncle G. Nembach, of Nembach, Steck & Co., one of the largest Music Houses in the metropolis at that time. Mr. Ruhr is prominent in fraternal circles as a Mason and Knights of Honor.
