by J. G. Gilmore of Osyka. He remained with the church three years. He was to continue on the salary of $1250 and one half his rent. The State Board refused to pay the $800, or half the Pastor?s salary. He volunteered to conduct prayer meeting and give one half time until he secured work elsewhere. It was decided during this year that the vacant lot that had been purchased a few years before be sold to W. A. McDonald for $250. Because of the rapid rise in real estate prices, it was deemed not advisable to purchase a site for a Pastor's home at this time. The Women's Missionary Society was authorized to purchase and install a piano. The deacons were to dispose of the church organ. Brother Gilmore was elected as a delegate to the Southern Baptist Association in Houston, Texas, on May 12-16, 1926.
At this time, Malcom E. Gillis served as Church Clerk. He was succeeded in 1927 by Ethel Sylvester. During this year the installing of electric fans was discussed. Miss Ruth Day was appointed as a delegate to the State Convention in Grenada, Mississippi, on November 15. The church pledged $159.19 to State Missions. A committee was appointed to buy a lot for the pastor's home or purchase a house. The church, along with the Kiln Church, was to assume responsibility to pay rent of $15 a month for a pastor's home. A state worker was asked to come down and make arrangements for a Daily Vacation Bible School to be held in 1928. A meeting was held to organize a County Baptist Young People's Union. The notice was placed in the Sea Coast Echo.
By the year 1928, church membership had increased to 82, but only 32 were active. When Reverend J. G. Gilmore resigned as Pastor because the church was unable to pay his salary, the Pass Christian Church asked the Bay St. Louis Church to cooperate with them for a full time pastor on alternating Sundays. The church agreed to do this, and Brother W. S. Allen of Hattiesburg was called. Brother A. B. Day was appointed Treasurer, F. A. Wright was Sunday School Superintendent, John Biyan was Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, Ruth Bryan was pianist, Dr. B. L. Ramsey was Sunday School Secretary, and Gladys Speer was Assistant Secretary. During this year it was decided that 15% of all envelope collections be sent to the State Board.
