HANCOCK COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HISTORY AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
On November 13, 1925, the State of Mississippi issued a grant of charter to the "Bay St.
Louis Chamber of Commerce". On November 15, 1945, tFe State of Mississippi approved an amendment to the charter of incorporation of "Bay St. Louis Chamber of Commerce" changing its corporate name to that of "Hancock County Chamber of Commerce". The incorporators in 1925 were Joseph 0. Mauffray, Capt. C. B. Fisher and R. C. Engman, all of Bay St. Louis. The President of the Chamber in that same year was H. S. Weston. In 1945 when the name was changed A1 Voight was President in that year with Arthur A. Scafide as Secretary-Treasurer. Here on this day of August 9, 1976 our present officers are Anita D. Lamb, President (the first woman President in the history of the Chamber), P. D. (Sonny) Bailey, Jr., Vice President and Richard (Dick) Thomas, Treasurer. The office staff consists of Captain Max Berns, Manager and Pam Dedeaux, Secretary.
The Chamber of Commerce is the Business Community at work as the central agency for Community development. It is the voluntary organization of men and women who are interested in, and	working for, industrial,	commercial and civic	progress.
The Chamber is the vehicle through which its	members combine	forces	for	executing	a	con-
tinuous, year after year program of work necessary for community development. It works for the benefit of all the business,	private and professional community.
It is supported by dues	from its members and	by the Hancock	County,	Waveland	and	Bay	St.
Louis governments. It is the only organization representing the combined voice of business, professional persons and political entities in Hancock County.
The Hancock County Chamber of Commerce has supported the introduction of NASA to Hancock County and later the introduction of the Naval Oceanographic office to NASA Test Site.
The Chamber supported the development of Buccaneer State Park in Waveland and the construction of the new City County Library.
It supported the Port & Harbor development at Port Bienville and assisted promoting new industry at this site as well as promoting the Stennis International Airport and the Vocational Technical Center.
fr The Chamber has consistently promoted tourism in the area both as a Chamber of Commerce and {as a member of the South Mississippi Tourist Promotion Council.
Hancock County has joined the other Coast Chambers to form the Gulf Coast Council, a federation of the combined Chambers membership. This body has had an important influence in the designation of the Hospitality Station to be located at the I-10/MS. 607 intersection. This and similar projects are planned to bring eastbound traffic from New Orleans to Bay St. Louis and Waveland to bolster the local economy.
The Chamber is continually involved in community development. Its work program includes beautification of the county and working with local government and educators to respond to the voice of business.
Land and agriculture interests are coordinated with the Hancock County Farm Bureau and the County Extension Service.
