AN ACT FOR THE RELIEF OF JOHN QUAVIE
WHEREAS, it has been Represented to the General Assenbly by the petition of sundry citizens of Hancock County, that John Quavie of said County, has rendered to the State of Mississippi and to Society in general, great service in detecting and bringing to justice, John Baker and Martin Hogan, the first of whom was tried at the last Superior Court held in and for said County, for robbery corrmitted in the Gulf of Mexico, within the boundary of this State, was condenned, and sentenced to death by said Court, and was executed on the 27th day of September last* the latter having made his escape fran jail, was not tried
And Whereas it is considered important to the interest of this State, that persons should be encouraged in deeds of valor, humanity and patriotism, such as this, is represented to have been, especially in relation to the atrocious crimes corrmitted on high seas, and sea board, therefore,
BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi in General Assembly convened, that the sun of two hundred dollars be paid to John Quavie for having detected and delivered to justice, John Baker and Martin Hogan, for -robbery ccomitted in the Gulf of Mexico within this State, out of any money in the State treasury not otherwise appropriated.
