A training course for new members is given once a year, as is a public fire prevention program. The fire station is located on Ul-man Avenue and Second Street. Fire equipment consists of a fire engine, purchased in 1929, and fire hoses, purchased in 1948. Fire insurance rates are higher than they should be, due to the lack of sufficient fire hydrants, and to the fact that most of the water mains in town are smaller than the four-inch size required for adequate pressure in extinguishing fires. However, Bay St. Louis has had a very good fire record for years, and in case of emergency the fire department of Waveland, Pass Christian, and Gulfport can be called upon for assistance.
