pap;e 4.
of a council to decide how the city should be run, and a mayor to carry out the council's orders.
There are many advantages to a new form of government. it. would have an organized administration. One of our p-reatest problems now is that we have too many cooks in the kitchen at the city hall. The mayor council form would set up a single administration to move the city in one direction.
A mayor-council government has many checks and balances, built-in safe guards to prevent the abuse of power. Our present commission form does not have these safeguards.
A mayor-council government would mean better financial control.
The mayor would spend the money, but the council would be in control of the funds. The existing form does not have this double financial control
A new form of government would attract better people to run for office. A councilman's post would be part time, so a person would not have to give up his livelihood to serve the community. Also, the pay wwould be so low, it would not attract people interested in makin^a fast buck.
Since this form of government would eliminate two full time commissioner posts, the money saved could be used to rive the full time mayor a fair salary. This would help to attract better qualified candidates to the mayor's race.
We feel this new form of government will be a bie: step forward in improving Tay St. Louis. The mayor-council form will provide this city with an'efficient, economical and democratic government.
