TCie ceremony will be of special significance to the organization because it marks the 35th anniversary of the club. “The Garden Club will be planting 24 large magnolias in honor of each past president of :he club,” Mrs. Russell said. Mrs. Paul M. Miller is the chairwoman of the Arbor Day ceremonies. The dedication of the new trees will be held at 10:30 a.m. Feb 22 in the service lane of Highway 90 between Second St. and Dunbar Ave. All of the organizations who Rave contributed to the project will be present. The Garden club has raised approximately $1000 afready for the bicentennial project and hopes to reach its goal of $J200. Mayor and Board of Aldermen of Waveland, Bay St. Louis Rotary Club, Diamondhead Garden Club, Bay-Waveland Junior Auxiliary, Altrusa Club, Bay St. Louis and Waveland Jaycee’s, American Legion and their auxiliaries in Bay St. Ixjuis and Waveland, Coast Electric Power Association, Hancock Bank and Merchant’s Bank. Much of the funds for the project will be contributed by the Bay-Waveland Garden Club from prize money won in previous projects from Sears’ Environmental Improvement Program and the Home and Neighborhood Development Service. I The stress will be on planting native trees such as live oak, pine and magnolia. There will also be beauty spots of flowering shrubs in the median of the highway in compliance with safety requirements. The club will work with Superintendent of Public Grounds, Felix Seager, in planning the median work. In addition to the planned tree planting, the Bay-Waveland Garden Club has asked individual businessmen and home owners to plant one tree for Arbor Day in front ot their business or residence. Club members have offered their assistance to any interested individuals who need planting instructions.
