As the Coastal area continued to thrive, and residential and shopping center movement shifted northward, in August 1969 the Norwood Village branch was opened at Norwood Village Shopping Center to serve the growing north Harrison County communities of Orange Grove, Lyman and Woolmarket. While branches provided needed services, it soon became apparent that expansion of existing facilities was extemely desirable. This led to tripling and quadrupling the size of both the Long Beach and Pass Road offices in order to keep pace with increased demand for new and more services at these locations. This led, also, to the enlargement and remodeling of existing buildings in Pass Christian and Bay St. Louis, as well as to extensive modifications to the Gulfport office. New facilities and major renovations are by no means the extent of the Hancock's attempts to provide full service banking in the truest sense. In 1965, Hancock became the first bank in the State -- and one of the first in the country -- to establish a complete Travel Department. Beginning with an office of Hancock Travel in Gulfport, the service was quickly extended to Bay St. Louis with a full-time staff of travel experts. And in 1967, a third location was opened at Edgewater. Recognizing the need for a mortgage loan service center on the Coast, in 1966 the bank launched another innovative service with the creation of the Hancock Mortgage Company. The mortgage loan department within the bank thus enabled the bank to assist present and prospective homeowners and businessmen with a major outlet for long-term, residential, commercial and industrial loans. Acceptance of this new service was immediate, and the department grew in size as loan demand increased. By February of 1974, services of this department were further expanded through the establishment of a branch office of Hancock Mortgage Company in Jackson.
