Events moved quickly for Jean Arluc after the death of his wife Marie Marguerite. On 20 October 1718, he engaged himself and his son Jean as workers for the Company of the West to go to Louisiana at 1200 livres per year. Just two weeks later, on 5 November 1718, Jean remarried, to Catherine Bazil, his niece by marriage: Catherine Bazil was the daughter of Catherine Sauvestre, older sister of Jean?s first wife, Marie Marguerite Sauvestre. The couple married at St. Nicolas in La Rochelle. Less than three months later, Jean Arluc, his new wife, and his children were aboard the Marechal de Villars, ready to sail to Louisiana. But what do we know of Jean Arluc?s life before his sojourns in La Rochelle and Louisiana? Jean Arluc?s paternal grandparents were Jean Arluc and Marguerite Laugiere; his maternal grandparents were Guilhen Jourdane (son of Raphael Jourdane and Anthoinette Roize) and Anne Ardisson. Both sets of grandparents probably married about 1650. Marguerite Laugiere died 3 January 1694, after the death of her husband Jean Arluc. Anne Ardisson died on 21 November 1673, followed by her husband Guilhen Jourdane on 29 April 1675 at age 70. Jean Arluc?s parents, Angelin Arluc and Anne Jourdane, married 1 February 1672 in Cannes: Le premier Janvier mariage a este celebre en face de notre mere Ste.
