In 1918, Leopold and Theresa (Bohlender) Dom moved to Yscloskey with their three daughters, Helen, Pearl, and Anna and opened their grocery and hardware store on the north side of Bayou La Loutre. Eventually Pearl married Edwin Nunez and settled in Alluvial City, whild Anna and her husband Cyril Gonzales settled in Yscloskey. Helen married Joseph Roussell and took over her parent's store.
Joseph was a fisherman who had moved to Yscloskey from Shell Beach with his parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Cornelius Roussell. Although his sister Dora eventually married and moved to Delacroix Island, his brothers Albert, a fisherman and trapper, and Frank, a fur and seafood buyer, remained in Yscloskey. In addition to running his business, Joseph became school board member for his community.
While the Roussell's kept the original Dorn's Store in business, another grocery store opened just down the road. Serpas Grocery was owned and operated by Malcolm Serpas and his wife Cecile, who was the daughter of Frank and Cecile Ritter. Helen Dom and Cecile Ritter were fortunate to have inherited the business acumen of theri fathers, for upon the deaths of their husbands, both women were successful at carrying on the responsibilities of theri respective business.
Joseph married Theresa Catherine Bolender, daughter of Jacob Bohlender and Theresa Portune. Theresa was bom in 1886 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. She died on 23 Feb 1924 in Ycloskey, St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana.
Theresa Catherine Bolender died of Carcinoma of Stomach. 38 Yrs. of age.
