Margueritte married in the year 1738, but could she have married later in life, or was this a second marriage for her? Keep in mind that I used age 18 as a possible date of birth based on known or approximate marriage dates or date of the birth of the first child. JBBG, Sr.'s first Indian wife could have been born in 1692 if she was age 16 (rather than age 18) when her daughter, Magdeleine "Pany" Baudreau, was born about 1708.
Magdeleine Panyouasas could have been age 28 (rather than age 18), or born in 1710, when she married in 1738. Using these numbers, they could easily have been sisters with an 18 year difference in age. With "Susanne" born about 1699, she could very well be another daughter of Chief Pierre Panyouasas.
There are plenty of Indian records available today that should give us JBBG, Sr.'s first wife's Indian or Anglo name. If she was baptized, as many local Indians were, we could possibly fine a record for her. Keep in mind that many of these early Indians, and half-Indians, had "Indian names" as well as "Anglo - Christian names."
Some researchers report the parents of Margueritte Panyouasas as Pierre Opehaw Panyouasas and Marianne Alpaha Panyouasas. Notice they have given them "Indian" names that are NOT given on the marriage record of Margueritte. They offer no sources to support this information. Some give dates of birth and death for these people, to include:
Pierre Panyouasas, born in 1645 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and died in Mobile, AL, June 4,1747.
Marianne Panyouasas, was born in 1653 in Quebec, Canada, and died in Mobile, AL, on June 4,1747.
They also say Pierre was a "Choctaw Chief." The problem is, there were no Choctaw Indians in Canada in the 1600s. If this unsourced information can be verified, it would also apply the "unnamed Indian," first wife of Jean Baptiste Baudreau dit Graveline, Sr.
Please understand, I am not trying to discredit anybody's "theories." This family is very complex with few first-hand sources. I present this paper to offer, what I feel, is a more detailed scenario to help identify the wives of Jean Baptiste Baudreau dit Graveline, Sr.
