Go to Beauvoir, the summer home of Jefferson Davis, between Biloxi and Gulfport, and take a look at how that illustrious son of the South spent his leisure hours. As this was his vacation home, it is filled with a miscellany of furniture. Bear this in mind before remarking that Monti- cello is far handsomer or better furnished. LISTEN when the guide tells you about life in those times, and read Mrs. Davis’ letters about household news. Don’t keep audibly comparing them to Abraham Lincoln’s masterpieces; don’t start a discussion about the War between the States; and don’t interrupt the guide’s story to tell about the bed your Aunt Sally gave you that is better than the one owned by Winnie Davis. There are many excellent restaurants along the Coast that specialize in seafood. They also serve steaks, and ham and eggs, for those timorous souls who refuse to try anything new. Why not make eating an adventure? Try some of our favorite dishes. You may find that you have been missing some gustatory delights.
