Mississippi Technology Transfer Office
The state of Mississippi has undertaken the initiative to operate an active technology transfer program at Stennis Space Center. This program is seeking economic and technological advantages for private businesses, state agencies and the educational system throughout Mississippi.
The goals are to identify and support the transfer and utilization of advanced technology at SSC and other federal laboratories. These laboratories are a huge and relatively untapped resource of 29,000 federal patents and related technology. There are a significant number of Mississippi companies that have been established, based on SSC linkages, reflecting new products, sources and increased competitiveness.
The imposing Mississippi Technology Transfer building was constructed in 1987 with state funds to reflect and operate the Mississippi and SSC partnership in the technology transfer program.
This modern facility provides critical resources to SSC for new activities such as the Space Remote Sensing Center.
The Mississippi Technology Transfer building is also used to house and support the establishment of new Mississippi companies that are utilizing technology at SSC. Located in the building are SSC-supported projects which utilize the faculty of Mississippi, Louisiana and other universities, representing a significant transfer of regionally based technology to SSC.
The Mississippi Technology Transfer Center has created an environment for growth of technology-related operations including the Federal Laboratory Consortium Southeast regional clearinghouse which accesses over 500 federal laboratories nationwide, and the Automation and Robotics Applications Center which provides NASA and commercial automation technology to enhance industrial competitiveness.
This bold initiative of the state of Mississippi provides the cornerstone for linkages to the technology information network of federal research laboratories.
NASA Technology Utilization
NASA’s Technology Utilization Program at SSC offers numerous services to state and local governments and to industry users requesting assistance. NASA’s ability to assist these users is greatly enhanced by the Mississippi Technology Transfer Office located here. This office combines state resources with those of NASA to effectively accomplish joint technology applications projects, and to develop and expand local infrastructure to provide mechanisms for direct linkage from industry to SSC technology transfer personnel.
