Nearly everything on lower Main Street was devastated, including the county jail, tax office, and building and zoning offices.
Today, the county will celebrate the first phase of its recovery, the re-opening of the courthouse.
A new annex on Hwy. 90 for other government func-
tions should be complete next year.
No doubt, this century-old cycle of rebuilding and repair will be necessary sometime in the future.
In the meantime, county leaders are asking citizens to enjoy their courthouse and the 100 years of history and heritage of which we are all so very proud.
