A Memorial Service for Gen. George Henry Nixon, is planned for Saturday, Hovember 2f at 2:00 P.M. Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3253, who helped with the restoration of his tomb, will be in charge of the ceremony.

Once forgotten, now restored
Buried beneath majestic live oaks in the sandy soil of southernmost Mississippi are veterans of long-ago wars, including General George Nixon, who fought beside General Andrew Jackson in the War of 1812. interred near the distinguished genera] is four-year-old Jennifer Wilson, whose untimely death inspired the restoration of the neglected territorial cemetery.
Alter the funeral of her granddaughter. Jenny. Pat Wilson was appalled to hear people exclaim. “Why would you bun a beautiful child in this God-for-saken placc'.’’* The comments prompted her to suggest a project of historic preservation to members of Auxiliary 3525. Bay St. Louis. Miss.
With Post members’ help, marble tomb* were repaired, the rusted wrought-iron fence reassembled, and brick walkways grouted. Children assisted by pulling weeds and hauling sand to fill the sunken graves.
Although the project was initially spearheaded by Auxiliary members Pat Wilson and Joyce Wall, members of the Post and residents of the surrounding community have continued to maintain the once-forgotten Pearlington cemetery.
