BAY ST. LOUIS
AUG 7, 1953
The songs written in this book are my own composition. Through the years, from 1917 to 1953 the inspiration to compose the lyrics and melody of these songs came at intervals sometime a year would go by before I would compose a song, and then I would compose any number of songs in a few weeks or even days. I have wished very often that someday, someone would hear one of these songs and maybe, this^bng would become popular-who knows-this could happen. Never the less I have had lots of fun with my song composing hobby. I will soon reach my sixty fifth milestone, so it?s been a long time from twenty-six to sixty-five-guess as long as I live I will write a song-?Thank God for this.? ?With a song in My Heart?
Sincerely
Marquerite L.P. Backman
JULIA
I first saw sweet Julia while crossing the lea She was gathering wild flowers and did not see me.
My heart seem?d to stop, than I looked up and said, dear Lord if you?re willing, this lass I shall wed.
As my footsteps drew nearer she heard me and then She darted away, like a frightened young wren ?I?m Kevin O?Malley?, from over the way A goin? to call on young Tommy McKay.
She stopped, then she turned, and to me she said In a fortnight, young Tommy and I will to wed.
Are you the young lad who had promised to be Best man at the wedding of Tommy and me?
Well, we walked and we talked as we went on our way Of the green country side and of their wedding day Then from the cottage his face bright and gay Came the bridegroom to be, young Tommy McKay.
So I see you?ve met Julia, you handsome young blade,
