Dodson went to Kenya, East Africa, as missionaries. Dr. Dodson did medical work in several areas of the country and our Pastor taught at the Baptist Seminary of East Africa, Limuru Branch. In May, David Trellis was commissioned as a Baptist Student Missionary to Syracuse, New York, during the summer from Mississippi State University. Melinda Smith had served as a missionary to Alaska in that capacity 2 years before and was asked to give her testimony at the Commission Service. During this month a Youth Group left for Briceville, TN to help with a Vacation Bible School with Home Missionary Evlvn Epps, who was Elisabeth Magee?s great aunt. The Church received the crocheted piece of the Lord's Supper, which is framed and hangs in Fellowship Hall. It was donated to the Church by Mrs. Mary Hanson and her family in memory of Mrs. Minnie Favre, her mother. The Church compiled a Pictorial Directory during this year. Reverend Barber announced on June 13, that the silver dollar which had been placed on one of the wood trusses of the sanctuary when the Church was originally built had been found during the renovation and had been put back when the Church was rebuilt after the fire. A steering committee composed of Perry Gibson, Robert Magee, Dr. M. L. Dodson, Mildred Ramond, Allene Brandon, Gail Carr, Allie Cospelich, Lester Gray, and Walter Beck was appointed to plan work at the Retreat Site. In August it was announced that Mrs. Emma Dennis had left $30,000 to the Church in her will. A kindergarten was opened in August with Mrs. Allison White as teacher. On August 29, a joint worship service with the Episcopal Church and a reception dinner were held.
