"That thoroughrfcred mechanic, Fr. J. S. Brassey, the proprietor of the Logtown Foundry & Fachine Shoo, is doing good service for the saw mill men. He saw a large number of castings, lately turned out at his establishment, designed for the various mills along the Pearl.
This work will compare favorably with any of the same patterns done in New Orleans, and gives complete satisfaction."
There is also a schooner on the stocks there, designed for the trade between Gainesville and New Orleans.
Axe Handle Factory
At Gainesville there is ,what our statisticians have long been deridln? the South for wanting, and that is an axe handle factory.
The "Star" says:
"It is worth while to go to Fr. Healy's establishment and witness the perfection and ranidity with which his new lathe mill turn out a perfect Yankee axe helve."
The "Star" also says:
"Business is pretty brisk. The river is risine, and raftsmen are commencing to flo~t in their lops.
"Numerous wa?ons pass our office daily, loaded with County produce."
