Large white panels flanking the altar on either side of the sanctuary are embossed j with the coat of arms of thej Diocese of Natchez-Jackson and the Missionary Servants of the! St. John’s is a mission of St. Joseph’s parish, Pearlington. The first church, a frame structure built by fisherman parishioners in the late 1880s, has been in continual use since then, despite extensive damage in three hurricanes. Originally cared for by Our: Lady of the Gulf parish. Bay St. Louis, St. John’s later became a mission of St. Clare’s parish. Waveland. In 1939 the Holy Cross Fathers took up residence at St. Joseph’s, Pearling-ton, and at that time St. John’s came under their care. The Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity took over the administration of St. Jo- ,seph’s parish. Pearlington, and J its missions at Ansley and Lake-; shore in 1948. Father Clement Kovascik, jM.S.SS.T., was the first Trin-jitarian pastor. He was succeeded by Fathers DePaul ; Landrigan, M.S.SS.T., Raphael | Toner, M.S.SS.T., and Regis !Dowd, M.S.SS.T.
